Local 520 supports domestic abuse center with Mother’s Day donations

At its heart, Mother’s Day is a celebration of the women in our lives.

The IBEW Local 520 Women’s Committee took the opportunity this Mother’s Day to make a donation to the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC), a non-profit in San Marcos that provides free and confidential services to victims of family violence, dating violence, sexual assault and child abuse. The center serves women who live, work or attend school in Hays and Caldwell counties.

The Local 520 Women’s Committee is a networking group of Local 520 Sisters designed to empower each other to be successful in nontraditional roles such as the construction industry.

The Women’s Committee donated Mother’s Day gift bags with popcorn and chocolates as well as gift cards and succulent plants.

Donations like this demonstrate how Local 520 is a part of the communities where we live and work.  The HCWC does great work, and we’re proud to support their efforts.

The HCWC maintains the McCoy Family Shelter, a $2.1 million facility for victims of abuse that features a state-of-the-art 24-hour monitored security system and special security fencing with automatic gates, along with private suites and private baths.

The HCWC strives to create an environment where violence and abuse are not tolerated. It provides education, violence prevention services and crisis intervention to victims of family violence, dating violence, sexual assault and child abuse.

The HCWC offers services in English and Spanish.

If you know anyone in an abusive relationship that needs help, contact HCWC here.
