The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 520 is proud of the men and women, who make up our workforce, and their commitment to building and rebuilding the central Texas region.

IBEW Local 520 provides signatory contractors with the region’s best-trained workforce, thanks to the outstanding instructors at the Austin Electrical Training Alliance (AustinETA). This workforce consists of apprentices and their experienced journeyman counterparts, who provide direction and on-the-job learning opportunities.

The AustinETA also provides journeyman electricians with opportunities to bolster their resume through upgrade training, ensuring they stay current on the latest trends and technology in the industry.

Another benefit, which comes with our strong commitment to training, is a focus on safety. IBEW Local 520 electricians are strongly encouraged to go beyond minimum safety requirements for the job site. This includes opportunities to complete OSHA 30-hour safety training and other higher level safety-related courses.

This combination of training elements helps ensure the IBEW Local 520 workforce is the best educated in the industry; a group trusted by project owners, general contractors and subcontractors alike.

Outside our 4 year apprenticeship program, we offer classes for Journeymen and Sub-Journeymen outside the apprenticeship:

  • Conduit Bending 1 & 2
  • Device Wiring
  • Grounding/Transformers
  • Services
  • Motor Controls
  • Basic Code
  • Codeology
  • Foreman Development Series
  • Code of Excellence

These are all courses available to IBEW 520 members throughout the year.
